Project: Transportation Ecosystem for Vision-Disabled

In light of the National Sampling Survey on Disability conducted in 2006, the total population of people with disabilities in China reached 82.96 million, or 6.34% of the total Chinese population. The total population of people with vision disabilities accounted for 12.33 million, or 0.942%.World Health Organization (WHO) states that China accounts for about 18% of the world’s blind and the number of people with vision disability grows every year. There are around 500 thousand people with disability in Shanghai. Among the total population, people with vision disability accounted for 89 thousand or 17.4%. Blindness seems to be a public health and social problem. Therefore, we select people with visual disability and tactile paving as the research object and use the problem-based method as a guide. We aim to find a direction for the future urban construction through our study. Moreover, we want to build a more sustainable and people-oriented construction for transportation environment.
